Don't know how to get rid of embarassing razor bumps, affecting sex life? ):?

I've been shaving my pubic area for about 2 years now and been dealing with ugly, discolored and dark razor bumps around my bikini area and on top of the vagina. I'm really self contious about it and am not comfortable with having sex with the lights on with my boyfriend.): ugh it's affecting my self esteem more than I thought it ever would. Please, can anyone suggest something from a drugstore or store I can try for now? I'm too embarrassed to see a doc about it yet.
